Festival Season to open in Wexford with Wexford Fringe Wexford Festival Opera and Wexford Spiegeltent Festival
24 consecutive days of celebrating the Arts at 3 Festivals in Wexford
The 64th annual Wexford Fringe opens on October 21st to announce 17 days of fantastic Fringe events. The Fringe well known for its originality, imagination and quality entertainment runs in parallel with the famous Wexford Festival Opera which takes place from October 26th to November 6th and the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival which runs from October 14th to October 30th 2016.
The vibrant Fringe festival brings approximately 50,000 visitors from all over Ireland and overseas to Wexford to join in the incredibly diverse array of creative array of events offer, which promote Wexford’s rich culture and distinct heritage on the world stage. Festival goers of all ages will be captivated by the sheer range of over 300 events and activities taking place during the annual open-access arts festival, including visual art, opera, classical and traditional music, theatre and dance, comedy, literary recitals, craft and children’s and street events, many of which are free to attend.
Highlights include talks and readings with garden designer and author Mary Reynolds and author Dermot Bolger, a very Gorey Halloween Festival and arts and crafts workshops for all the family, Guinness Singing and Swining Pubs competition 2016 and a wonderful visual art trail featuring all forms of art, craft and photography exhibitions throughout Wexford town and county with a range of over 60 local and visiting artists turning Wexford into a gallery lover’s paradise.
The 2016 Wexford Festival Opera will officially open with a giant fireworks display on the Quayside in Wexford town on the evening of October 26th, the Opera festival will run for 12 days and will showcase rare and forgotten masterpieces at the 65th annual Wexford Festival Opera from October 26th to November 6th and a third festival will also take place; the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival is in action in a beautiful setting on Wexford’s Quayside from October 14th to 31st where gigs with Jack L, Little Green Cars, Mick Flannery, Paul Young, The Saw Doctors and more are all on offer.
