Wexford Maritime Festival
The programme details for the annual Wexford maritime Festival has been launched in Wexford today (Thursday June 11th) with Maritime activities, childresn events, entertainment, local food produce and exhibitions all on offer to the expected crowds of over 30,000 visitors this June 20th and 21st.
This year’s festival has major new events and organisers are expecting the largest ever crowds to visit Wexford quayside over the festival weekend. The festival, now in its fourth year, is Ireland’s largest maritime festival and each year attracts over 30,000 people to the quays of the Sunny South East town.
Some of the festival highlights include a Search and Rescue Demonstration by the Irish Maritime Search and Rescue Services involving the Air Corps Casa Fixed Wing Aircraft, the Air Corps 139 Helicopter, The Irish Coast Guard, the RNLI Lifeboats.
A blue Light Village featuring all of the countries emergency services will feature on the Quayside, visitors can meet the members of the RNLI, Irish Water Safety, Civil Defence Naval Service, Coast Guard water units whom will offer some insights on life in the emergency services. The ‘Try it Dock’ is back and this year it offers visitors the opportunity to try out Kayaking, Canoeing, Powerboating, Waterskiing and coracle rowing on Saturday and Sunday afternoon all under the careful watch of profesional instructors.
Commenting on the upcoming festival, one of the festival organisers Lorraine Galvin said, “Our 2015 festival programme is the biggest yet, this is set to be a fanastic weekend in Wexford, we’re expecting well over 30,000 visitors and there are lots of free events on the programme for everyone to enjoy.”
Free events include a ‘Try a Dive’ , Wexford’s Sub Aqua Club are offering the opportunity to try out Scuba Diving for the first time with all equipement and instruction will be provided. A model boat village, a Food Village, a Dance and Performers Showcase and live music will all ensure a fun festival atmosphere with a free Aerobatic Airshow set to offer thrills to spectators on Sunday afternoon.
The Wexford Food Family will host a market of local producers, chef demonstrations and outdoor seating area in view of the main stage where County Wexford’s finest performers will play live all weekend.
