Free Open Air Concert in Wexford Town, Street Rhythms Festival Enniscorthy & Kite Surfing Festival in Duncannon

Festival revellers and visitors to County Wexford are spoiled for choice from August 19 to August 21 as three festivals take place right across the town and county. The Street Rhythms Festival takes place in Enniscorthy, The Charlotte Street Music Festival takes place in Wexford town and the Wexford Kite surfing Festival takes place in Duncannon plus the annual Tagoat Stem Rally.

Both the Street Rhythms Festival and the Charlotte Street Festival commence on August, 19, The Street Rhythms festival brings dance, music, street entertainers, markets and fun to the streets of Enniscorthy. At 8pm the Parade of Dancers will take to the streets with French band Le Fanfare Piston. The official opening will commence at 8.30 with spectacular music and dance and will be followed by a stunning light show from Enniscorthy Castle.

Saturday programme is action packed with Hip Hop, Street Dance and Irish Dance demonstrations and Workshops, fairytales at the castle, an open air kids disco and much more. As evening closes in an Open-Air Rock n Roll Dance will take place with the very popular Runaway Boys.

On Sunday at noon in Enniscorthy’s Market Square a Jazz session with Ain’t Misbehavin’ will take place followed by an International Day of Dance’ with performances from Latvia, Poland, Brazil and a taste of Bollywood, Flamenco, Bellydance, Capoeira, African, Salsa, Jive, Line Dancing and much more. The festival will host a huge programme of fringe events and will close on Sunday evening at The Riverside Park Hotel with the world famous Kilfenora Ceili Band. For the full programme of events see

Commenting on the Street Rhythms Festival , Sue Kavanagh, Festival committee member said, “The programme for the 2011 Street Rhythms Festival is really diverse offering events that will appeal to everyone, one particular event which is a must see is the ‘Light Show’ on Friday night it really is amazing, it is architectural projection mapping where a 3D scene is projected onto a 2D surface in this case on the front facade of Enniscorthy Castle and will interact with the beautiful architecture of the building, playing with its wonderful features.”

The Charlotte Street Music Festival takes place in Wexford Town on Charlotte Street from Friday August 19 to Sunday August 21. A spectacular free open air music festival will take place featuring a variety of music from classic pop to funk, roots to blues, disco to Irish traditional, and a whole lot more.

Kicking off on Friday 19th of August  at 6pm with all round entertainment headlined by Smash Hits, performing the best of classic dance, pop and R’n’B tracks from the 90s followed by a Harvest Dance from 11pm until late in The Stores.

On Saturday August 20, Jazz music will fill the air from 2pm followed by the Cosmic Funk Band on stage from 5pm, with its mix of Funk and Disco.

Sunday entertainment starts with Traditional Music and Irish Dancing, with local groups performing from 12.30pm. Two Time Polka,  the internationally acclaimed Roots and Americana band from Cork take to the stage at 3pm and are followed by the Imelda May Tribute Band from 5pm.  An end of Festival Party takes place at The Stores from 10pm.

At Duncannon Beach over 50 high flying Kites will take to the skies as the Wexford Kite Surfing Festival and Irish Kite Surfing Championships take place from August 20 to 21. The festival offers a variety of challenges for the extreme sports enthusiast plus a fun filled family programme for the young and not so young. A Freestyle Competition and Course Racing event will see Kite surfers from all across Ireland descend upon the village of Duncannon to compete and capture the national title.

The Kite Surfing Festival free family fun programme offers family entertainment, face and body painting, Hoola Hoop workshops and demonstrations, bubble workshops and glitter throwing. Archery, Bungee Trampolines, Bouncy Castles and a festival BBQ and live music trail is also on offer.  For a full programme of all festivals see

The Tagoat Steam Rally will take place on Sunday, August 21 featuring live Music, Dog Show, a Bonnie Baby Competition and lots of fun and family games.
