The annual Duncannon Sandscultping Festival will take place on Duncannon Beach from Friday August 12 to August 14.
The festival will officially open on Friday, August 12 with a spectacular beach party. 100 performance dancers, DJ and 5 a side FAI backed soccer tournament and of course the famous fireworks launched in the harbour with the panoramic view of the Hook Peninsula and the Waterford coastline will provide a stunning backdrop.
Saturday and Sunday will continue the weekend with the 5 a side beach soccer tournament, the amateur Sand Scultping events, puppet shows, climbing wall, face-painting, kids beach games, painting wall, street bands, comedy groups & kids fancy dress are among the various activities happening as well as the continuing Sand Sculpting exhibition!
Sand Sculptors from all across Europe will descend upon the coastal town to create some striking master pieces from the South East Sand.
On Saturday August 13 the Curracloe Beach Challenge 2011 will take place. The challenge will offer a host of exercise events and of course the 10k challenge.
Pilate’s exercises to improve core strength and flexibility will be on offer. The Pilates workout will last approximately one hour focusing on stretching and awakening the body in preparation for the walk ahead.
The 10 km route, will start at Culletons Gap taking participants along the forest tracks to the Raven point, out towards the sea, and past sand dunes, with beautiful views of Mount Leinster and Rosslare.
Participants may even catch a glimpse of the local wildlife as the seals stretch out on the sandbanks. At Raven Point there will be a stroll along Curralcoe Beach arriving back to the starting point and a swim on the Blue Flag beach will close the event.
