All at Sea

The Sun is well and truly in the sky and The Hook Head Light House has a weekend of activity and fun all lined up for visitors and locals alike this weekend (April 30 to May 2) at The Maritime Matters Festival.

From 12 Noon to 7pm Saturday and Sunday of the May Bank Holiday- learn how the rescue services work together to avert tragedy. Meet the members and see the equipment of the Coast Guard, RNLI, Civil Defence, Navy, and others. Spectacular Rescue displays on the water by the RNLI and Rescue Helicopter.

Music over two days includes the Air Corps pipe band, traditional, sea shanties, singer/songwriters and local bands to interest all ages, Children’s entertainment including art classes, fancy dress, balloons. A demonstration and sale of Local arts and crafts will also take place.
Displays of Antique Ross and carrickmacross Lace-Ships in Bottles will be showcased.  ‘Coastguard of Yesteryear display’, Traditional boat building, and a Holistic tent are all part of the diverse programme.

Parking for this event is located approx 1/2 kilometre from the venue, a shuttle bus is provided free of charge or take a short walk by the Seaside.

  • A 5km charity swim from Dunmore to the Hook
  • A huge choice of food from BBQ to PIG ON A SPIT
  • RNLI & Coastguard demonstrations
  • Free art and craft workshops with BUI BOLG
  • Knights doing combat displays
  • Party Club with puppetry and magic & juggling
  • Stalls displaying & selling local crafts

Displays and manoeuvres on the water by the Irish Marine Rescue Services.
