Wexford Summer Trad Trail and 1950’s Rockin in Enniscorthy


2011 Summer Trad Trail launched in Wexford

The 2011 Wexford Summer Trad Trail has been launched in Wexford town for the 2011 summer season.

The music trail features the best of traditional music and song each night at one of twelve different venues across the town until September; the experience is freely available to locals and visitors alike.

Enniscorthy will go back in time this weekend to the 1950’s

‘Rock and Roll’ is the order of the day at Enniscorthy as ‘The Riverside Jump Festival’ which will take place this weekend July 15 and 16 in Enniscorthy Town. Irelands biggest Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rockabilly party sees a great line up of Irish and International acts set to ‘Rock the Town’.

Events commence on Friday, July 15 with Rockabilly act ‘TV Jones and The Tomahawks’ taking to the stage at The Bailey; an open Jam Session will also take place and all musicians are welcome to join in this rock –fest event. DJ Lew Boogie will spin the discs between the live music and it is all hosted by the newly formed ‘South East Rock n Roll Club’.

Saturday, July 16 sees the events programme jump across the river to a programme of free events in the Templeshannon area featuring ‘The Nervous Breakdowns’ playing in Toss Kavanagh’s from 3 to 4.30 pm and ‘Joe Fury & The Hayride’ jamming in the Old House from 4.30 to 6 pm, both gigs are free to all.

On Saturday evening the ‘Rockabilly Set’ kicks off at 8pm with Dublin’s finest ‘Aces Wild’ take centre stage followed by one of the best live acts in the UK ‘Hicksville Bombers’; ‘Jessie and The Orbits’  will set the scene for the headline ‘ Mars Attacks’ from Switzerland who are making their first ever appearance in Ireland. Mars Attacks have appeared at every major Rockin’ Festival in the World and have been backing band to countless 50’s stars when they tour Europe including Sun legends Sonny Burgess and Billy Lee Riley.

According to one of the festival organizers Eamonn Doyle, “The Riverside Jump 2011 features seven bands, DJ’s, Cars and Vinyl in a 100% unique celebration of the 1950’s. It is hoped to develop this into a full weekend festival. The 1950’s programme is pretty special and there some fantastic exciting events planned to place Enniscorthy at epicenter of Rock n’ Roll in Ireland.”
